Essilor has always been pioneer in the production of new glasses. In 1954, they invented the organic lens. Some years later, in 1959, Bernard Maitenaz invented the first progressive lens in the world, the first progressive Varilux lens, what meant the creation of a new category of visual correction products. Since then, this brand has gone on innovating. In fact, a 5% of their annual income is directed to I+D+i programmes, intended to improve the optical characteristics of our lenses, to know the users' needs and to provide them a major comfortability. As a result, they have got more than 5800 patents associated to our lenses and more than 500 researchers all over the world.
